Slow Road to China
Slow Road to China is a photographic exploration of the inhabitants and mountains of the Humla region of northwestern Nepal. Doggett captures the drama of both in striking black and white, his images made all the more poignant by this isolated area’s extreme poverty and delicate hold on a disappearing Tibetan culture. Grit and warmth, humility and pride, innocence and wisdom emerge from Doggett’s intimate portraits of weathered villagers. Movingly, the dialogue between them and their unforgiving yet beautiful natural surroundings is audible on every page.
